The Canadian Association of Pharmacy Technicians (CAPT) welcomed Colleen Norris as President for a two-year term. Colleen, who previously held the position of Vice President on CAPT’s Board of Directors, was elected by the members at the Annual General Meeting held on May 2nd, 2015.
Colleen Norris received her CPhT (Certified Pharmacy Technician) in 1996 and has worked in retail pharmacy for over 27 years. For 20 of those years, Colleen worked as Dispensary Operations Manager at an independent compounding pharmacy where she was also trained in non-sterile and sterile compounding. Colleen won the Commitment to Patient Care award for Best Pharmacist\Technician in 1994 and also Technician of the Year for Pharmasave Drugs in 1996. During her time spent in community pharmacy practice, Colleen held a teaching assistant position with the University of Toronto International Pharmacy Graduate program.
Recently, Colleen held a position as a Consultant Technician with a long term care pharmacy and is presently the only Pharmacy Technician employed at PointClickCare. Colleen is a Project Manager for Pharmacy managing Pharmacy integrations with electronic health care record in long term care facilities.
Colleen has been the interim President for CAPT since Nov 2014. She has a long history with CAPT that started as Vice President and then President of the former Ottawa Chapter Elected to the CAPT Board in June of 2007, Colleen held the position of Internal Affairs and then transitioned to the position of Director of Membership and most recently to Vice President. In the last 2 years, Colleen assisted with the development of the online payment process in the new membership database and initiated the acquisition of a marketing firm to develop better communication and an improved CAPT website to be launched soon.
Colleen has worked on the Moving Forward project with the Canadian Pharmacists Association and was active with the Blueprint for Pharmacy Working groups and taskforce. Last year Colleen received recognition from CCCEP for 5 years as a Learning Review Panelist. Most recently, Colleen was asked to continue Blueprint Steering Committee work on the Blueprint transition advisory committee.
Colleen has completed all Bridging courses and the OCP Jurisprudence exam and has successfully passed the Pharmacy Examining Board of Canada exams and is in the process of working on her Structured Practical Evaluation with having a target of being regulated with the College by June 2015.
Robert Solek was acclaimed to the position of Board Vice President. In February of 2009, Robert was elected to CAPT’s Board of Directors in the position of Vice President. Most recently, Robert was acting as Director of Promotions and Public Relations.
Hayley Roberts was acclaimed to the position of Director of Promotions and Public Affairs. Hayley is new to the Board of Directors as of the election on May 2nd, 2015. Hayley Roberts is currently practicing in hospital setting at Ontario Shores: Centre for Mental Health Sciences and in community setting at Shoppers Drug Mart. She also has experience working in acute-care hospital, long- term care pharmacies and community pharmacy settings. Through her employment in these various settings she developed leadership and coaching skills by acting as a preceptor to pharmacy technician students. Hayley is self-motivated and always open to learning and exploring new things. She manages to keep her pharmacy practice up to date by taking part in a variety of continuing education including: conferences, lunch and learns, workshops and online continuing education modules. She has great interpersonal and communication skills as demonstrated through her involvement in the planning and coordination of events during Pharmacy Awareness Month, raising awareness of current pharmacy practice and related topics.
