Pharmacy Technician Day was first endorsed by Pharmacy Technician Educators Association, American Association of Pharmacy Technicians, Inc. – AAPT and Pharmacy Technician Certification Board in 2015. This year, on October 16th, CAPT is proud to collaborate with USA and UK in celebrating and recognizing Canadian pharmacy technicians . The third Tuesday of each year is now proclaimed by CAPT as National Pharmacy Technician Day and published on Health Canada website as a national health promotion day.

Here are a few ways you can take part in the celebrations:

1. Get social – use #RxTechDay2018 on all your social media posts, download and share our graphics and posters on social media or print them to post in your pharmacy

2. Join and support pharmacy technician associations as they continue to strongly advocate for you and your profession

3. Educate the public on the role a pharmacy technician plays within the healthcare team and how a pharmacy technician’s role differs from pharmacy assistants and pharmacists

The profession of pharmacy technicians has come a long way since the inception of regulation in 2010. To date there are just over 8000 Registered Pharmacy Technicians all over Canada and the numbers continue to grow.

On behalf of CAPT Board of Directors, I would like to take this opportunity to wish my fellow technicians a very happy Pharmacy Technician Day. While we recognize everything pharmacy technicians do every day, today is a special time to celebrate and recognize the essential role of pharmacy technicians all over the world.

Pharmacy technicians in Canada perform critically important tasks to serve patients while ensuring medication safety. I encourage you to join CAPT and encourage your employers to pay for your membership to CAPT as we continue to strongly advocate for our profession. We are just as strong as our members.

We hope you had a wonderful #RxTechDay today.
